Josh Lorenz (SAND secretary) and myself spoke with the new owners of the Value Village shopping center (1280-1296 Moreland Avenue and 1263 Custer Avenue) this afternoon. SAND and NPU-W had voted in favor of the annexation and rezoning of that property into the City of Atlanta as MRC-1 (low-density mixed residential commercial) with the condition that 10 percent of any for sale residential be set aside for those earning up to 100% of Area Median Income (AMI). At the time of the vote at both SAND and NPU-W, the applicants planned to only have for sale residential. They are now considering some rental units as well in the future, and were wanting to set aside 10 percent of those units for people earning up to 100% of AMI. We asked that this be modified to 80% of AMI and they agreed to make this change to the proposed legislation. It has already cleared the Zoning and Review Board, but still needs to be approved by City Council next month. If anyone has any questions or concerns in regards to the inclusion of apartments (which are a permitted use for MRC-1) or the set aside amounts, please contact me at president@sandatlanta.org and I'll put you in touch with the applicant.
