Southeast Atlanta Residents Launch Campaign to Save Neighborhood Libraries

Funded by a library bond referendum approved by Fulton County voters in 2008, the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System is currently building a new library at 1463 Pryor Road, Atlanta, GA 30315.

Through investigation, Southeast Atlanta residents have learned that the current plan is to close Georgia Hill, Carver Homes, and Thomasville Heights libraries once the new Southeast Atlanta Branch is opened in late 2015.

While residents are excited at the prospect of having a new, modern library, they point out that "Losing these neighborhood libraries will limit access to the rich collection of resources that are currently in our communities.  Children and adults can currently walk and bike from Grant Park, Peoplestown, and Summerhill, under the new plan the library would be almost an hour's walk away."

Concerned neighbors have launched a petition campaign at which will be sent to the Fulton County Commissioners, Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System.  It is available at:  https://www.change.org/p/fulton-county-commissioners-atlanta-fulton-public-library-system-save-georgia-hill-library-and-other-southeast-atlanta-libraries
